Watch Roster — Onboard Card
Newport→Bermuda, June 2026 (schedule by Ryan + Joel). The live crew watch schedule. Off-watch = sleep — fatigue cascades over a ~4-day race. Watch captains have on-deck authority (see Watch Captain Playbook).
Watch system — rolling 4-hour rotation
From the skipper's brief:
- 4-hour rotating shifts. Each hour one person comes on and one comes off — a continuous conveyor, never a cold full-team handoff.
- Always a navigator on watch — Joel or Ryan (one anchors each 4-hour block).
- Always a bow person on watch — Rod, Brandon, or Mary.
- Driving rotates. Multiple qualified drivers are on each watch, so helm shifts stay 1–2 hours — especially in heavy weather. The driver each hour is marked on the posted schedule.
- Core positions are assigned (below) — same as the NYC→Newport delivery.
- Watch leads / "Watch 1" & "Watch 2": the navigator-anchor leads each block. Elsewhere in the docs (checklists, MOB card, Watch Captain Playbook), "Watch 1" = Joel's blocks and "Watch 2" = Ryan's.
- Bunks are assigned; your bunk buddy is in the table below.
- The watch starts ~3–4 hours after the race start. The full marked schedule is posted in the cabin (with the boat diagram) — no need to memorize it.
On-watch rotation (one 8-hour cycle — repeats ×3/day)
The navigator is fixed for each 4-hour block. The other four are the on-watch crew in rotation order — column "just on" is the newest hand; "4th hr" rolls off at the next hour. Each holds their core position (below); driving rotates among the qualified drivers (marked on the posted cabin copy). Off-watch = everyone not listed.
